Saturday was the Sagra del Seitan (seitan festival) which I have not missed for the past few years. Ania and I were mislead by the kitchen hours and had to wait a few hours for a long overdue lunch which actually just turned into dinner. To fill the time, we amused ourselves with beer, seitan arrosticini, beer, free samples (vegan ravioli, cheese, hot dogs), beer, vegan bombolone (doughnut), beer, and puppies! When it came time to eat our meal, we just about devoured every morsel even after munching the whole afternoon. This (I hope) will be the last big indulgence for a while.
Even though I have been vegan for a little over 7 years, I still like to pay attention to how much processed food I am eating (store bought tofu, canned beans, soy/rice milk with added sugars). I am still pretty good about these things, but my intake of iced soy latte and fette biscottate (little toast) with peanut butter and blueberry jelly has hit record levels. I have started a little two day (maybe more?) detox cleanse. No sugar, no caffeine, no wheat. At the 24 hour mark, I am dying for my latte right about now, so I am reaching for iced green tea instead to calm the urge. Usually when I have gone this long without coffee, I would start to have a headache, but the green tea has warded it off pretty well at this point. Let's see how far I can take this!
On the menu so far, adapted from GOOP: Iced green tea, pea & basil soup, salad with beet, fennel, walnuts, and carrot ginger dressing, fruit & nut smoothies.
